Anthony L. Borrelli
J.D. from University of Illinois in 2018
Joined P&H in September, 2018

I have been an associate at Pedersen & Houpt for just under a year. In this time, I have come to appreciate that P&H is a truly special place to practice law.

The primary feature that sets Pedersen & Houpt apart is its 'just right" size. P&H is robust and sophisticated enough to take on national and international transactions and complicated litigation matters. It's also small enough to provide the quality of life and family atmosphere of a boutique. From this exclusive unique position within the legal industry, P&H effectively serves and offers exceptional value to a diverse client base ranging from startup founders to high net-worth families to Fortune 500 companies.

I primarily practice in Pedersen & Houpt's Real Estate and Corporate and Business Counseling Practice Groups. On the corporate side, I have assisted on business counseling and corporate transactional matters including private equity investments, commercial finance, regulatory counseling, and corporate governance. On the Real Estate side, I have gained exposure to the full gamut of real estate and financing transactions. I have worked on various leasing matters including large-scale industrial leases, headquarters and satellite office leases, as well as restaurant and retail leases. I have also assisted on multiple complex transactions including portfolio acquisitions and air rights divisions. Additionally, I have participated on both the borrower and lender side of acquisition loans, mezzanine loans, construction loans, and other real estate financing structures of all sizes.

Deals at P&H are staffed leanly and strategically (often times just a partner and a single associate). As a result, I have been encouraged to engage meaningfully from day one. I have been given substantive tasks and heightened responsibilities much earlier in my career than my peers at other firms. Thanks to the savvy and supportive partners at P&H, I have been fully equipped to do so.  I consider many of the partners I've worked with as personal mentors, and they have all been instrumental in my development as an attorney.

Beyond helping us craft our work product and hone our legal minds, the partners at P&H have also helped me and the other associates grow as professionals outside of the office. The firm has an exceptional Associate Business Development Program which fosters business-mindedness and networking skills. Pedersen & Houpt is a highly entrepreneurial firm. Associates are routinely invited to interface directly with clients and attend business development functions. The firm also hosts multiple social, community service, and networking events. One example is the Peer Pedersen Open, an annual charity golf outing held in honor of the firm's founder.

Rounding out Pedersen & Houpt's list of distinguishing qualities is its fantastic firm culture. The firm's leadership is responsive and flexible. Partners are accommodating of various working styles. Supervisors are fair and direct with criticism and generous with praise. The office environment is social and welcoming. My colleagues are smart, interesting, and warm. The personal and professional relationships that I have developed at P&H have made my time here incredibly fulfilling.
