Pedersen & Houpt Attorneys Stan Sneeringer and Mike Durkin Prevail Before Illinois Supreme Court in Landmark Trusts Case
The Illinois Supreme Court issued an unanimous ruling today in favor of Pedersen & Houpt's client, Michael Feinberg, and reversing the decisions of both lower courts, in the case In re Estate of Max Feinberg. Our client, the co-executor of his father Max's estate, sought to enforce the terms of a trust provision restricting inheritance to grandchildren who had not married outside the Jewish faith. The Court stressed Illinois' public policy in favor of freedom of testation and recognized Max's intention to benefit those descendants who opted to honor and further Max's commitment to Judaism. Congratulations to Mike Durkin and Stan Sneeringer, who argued this case before the Court in May 2009, and to all attorneys and staff who worked on this matter. The full opinion can be found below.
